What's the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 ?

Since the birth of USB 1.1 in 1998, the USB standard protocol has been revised many times. Each revision of the standard results in higher transmission speeds and higher power. The latest revision of USB is USB 3.2, but considering the practical application, the fastest USB 3.1 is still on the market, and USB 3.1 standard is also divided into the first generation (Gen 1) and the second generation (Gen 2), there are many differences between the two ones

USB 3.0 released in 2008, offers unprecedented transmission speeds (up to 5Gbps) and increased power to connect more peripherals (up to 20V,5A,100W). In 2013, with the release of USB 3.1, the transmission speed made a significant leap -- up to 10Gbps!

Later, the USB-IF organization published an article announcing that the USB 3.0 connector supporting 5Gbps (SuperSpeed) was classified as USB 3.1 Gen 1; and the USB 3.1 connector supporting 10Gbps (SuperSpeed +) was classified as USB. 3.1 Gen 2

As USB revisions continue to roll out, you may also notice that more and more USB devices are beginning to adopt the Type C interface. When you see the new Type C connector on a new motherboard or laptop, be aware that Type-C does not automatically reach USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed (up to 10Gbps). Some products with Type C connectors still only support USB 3.1 Gen 1 speed (up to 5Gbps)

Actually. The design of USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable is not very different compared to USB 3.1 Gen 1, but Gen 2 has higher requirements for the technical details. P-Shine is the earliest company in China to achieve mass production of USB 3.1 Gen 2 cable. It is one of the leading suppliers of USB 3.1 cables for INTEL now

So when you buy a new product that includes a type c cable, check that it's USB 3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2! Only when the input end, connection cable and output end all meet USB 3.1 Gen2 standard at the same time, then you can enjoy the powerful performance of 10Gbps transmission rate, 800M/s, 4K@60Hz. At present, the transmission speed of most products on the market will not exceed 5Gbps, it is ok to choose Gen 1
